The legendary group, which included icons such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, inspired a generation of basketball fans and sneaker enthusiasts. As we approach the 31st anniversary of their iconic victory at the Olympics, an impressive collection of their sneakers is set to hit the auction block.
The 1992 Dream Team Elite Auction features an incredible selection of game-worn and autographed sneakers and jerseys from all members of the U.S. men’s basketball team roster: Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullen, and Christian Laettner. While most team members’ jerseys came from the Olympic Semifinal round against Lithuania on August 6, 1992, the sneakers come split between the pre-Olympic Tournament of the Americas, the Tournament of the Americas, and the Olympics.
Malone was given each of the items from his teammates and displayed the pieces at his car dealership in Utah. Goldin, the auction house hosting this once-in-a-lifetime sale, struck a deal with the NBA legend on the Netflix show King of Collectibles: The Goldin Touch.
The 1992 Dream Team Elite Auction is available to bid on through Goldin and ends May 24. Currently, bids for MJ’s Air Jordan 7 and jersey total more $1 million combined, with almost all of the sneakers reaching above five figures and jerseys nearing six-figure bids.
