New Balance has to give Aime Leon Dore a ton of credit for the brand's recent success in the “hype” world as the Teddy Santis-led NYC label helped revive (arguably) NBs most popular model - the New Balance 550. Since the hit collaboration on the model began back in 2020, we’ve seen the two come together for a variety of 550s with the most recent two-pack still awaiting shipping for the pre-order release back in 2022. Now, shortly after Teddy Santis and ALD’s version of the New Balance 860v2 released, two new colorways of the Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 550 are hitting shelves.
Taking on an all-over suede construction across its upper, both tonal pairs (one “Taupe” and another “Brown”) feature accenting hits via the canvas underlay below. Hairy, premium suede takes on the titular shade for each colorway with white hits landing on the toebox, collar, heel tab, and tongue. Co-branded details appear in a similar fashion as every previous ALD x NB 550 with the NYC label’s name featured on the tongue as well as on the heel. As for the standard branding details, New Balance’s “N” logo remains unchanged on the midfoot, the “550” text is still featured near the toe, and one of the two sneakers gets an “NB” logo stamped on its heel. Underfoot sits the usual 550 midsole and outsole in white which completes the design.
The Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 550 Basketball Oxford Pack will release on May 11, 2023 through a raffle on Aime Leon Dore's website. Following this release, New Balance is will host a release on August 9, 2023. Set to release in men's sizing, the retail price for each pair comes in at $130.
