In a momentous move for women's basketball, Aliyah Boston, the first overall pick of the 2023 WNBA Draft, has now become part of the distinguished adidas Basketball roster. This signing is a testament to Boston's exceptional talent and potential and a clear indication of adidas' commitment to supporting and promoting the game's future stars.
Eric Wise, Global General Manager of Basketball at adidas, said in a press release: "She exudes strength, resilience, versatility and natural skill that is unmatched. We are proud to support her on her journey to greatness."
Boston's admiration for Candace Parker, a long-standing partner of adidas Basketball and fellow first overall pick, was evident during her acceptance speech for the NCAA Most Outstanding Player award in 2022. Now, she shares the spotlight with her idol as a fellow adidas athlete.
"adidas is a brand that continues to grow the game and empowers their athletes on and off the court,” Boston said in a release. “I’m super excited to continue to evolve into the best woman and athlete I can be while dominating on the court and being a role model alongside an incredible roster of hoopers. It’s truly a blessing.”
Alongside Parker, Boston is joining adidas' roster of WNBA players that includes Layshia Clarendon, Kahleah Copper, Sophie Cunningham, Chelsea Gray, Betnijah Laney, Angel McCoughtry, Nneka Ogwumike, Chiney Ogwumike, and Erica Wheeler.
Boston will make her highly anticipated WNBA debut May 19, when the Indiana Fever takes on the Connecticut Sun.
