Feel-good sports movies don’t hit the same way they used to. Films like “The Sandlot,” “Little Big League,” and “Rudy” gave a generation of kids and adults inspiration that the underdogs can push through adversity to heights they thought were unimaginable. One of the most popular sports movies from the 90s, Disney’s “The Mighty Ducks,” has maintained its status as a classic and has garnered a cult following. To pay homage to the film during its 30th anniversary, Disney is teaming up with adidas for a collaborative pack honoring the team itself, its leader, Jesse Hall, and their rival Hawks.
On the Mighty Ducks colorway, the teams famous green, purple, and yellow shades cover the knit pattern of the Ultraboost 1.0 as well as the suede and TPU overlays. Tonal green suede covers the mudguard with “D-5” debossed on the medial side, a nod to District 5 (the local Pee-Wee hockey league in the film). Interspersed throughout the forefoot’s knit pattern are shades of purple and gold, continuing onto the plastic Three Stripes cage with the logo itself coming in both tones atop a lighter green TPU. Unfortunately, there are no Ducks logos to be found on this colorway with co-branded Disney and adidas logos on the insole and the standard adidas and Ultraboost logos on the upper. Rounding out the look is the exposed Boost midsole paired with a black Continental rubber outsole.
The rivals of the Ducks, the Hawks, also get their own colorway featuring the teams color palette of white, black, and blue placed on the model in a similar fashion to the Ducks. Black makes up the fused overlay on the toe and collar portion while white, black, and blue patterns throughout the upper contrast this. Just like the other team colorway, no logos are found as Disney and adidas branding make it to the insole with typical Ultraboost branding can be seen in its usual locations. What makes this color stand out from the pack is its use of 3M in the front half of the sneaker, though the sole unit remains reflectionless.
For Jesse Hall, the leader of the Ducks, his pair features a retro-style color scheme from the real-life Anaheim Ducks. Maroon shades act as the primary color, seen on the collar, heel, and mudguard, while white and teal shades appear on the knit pattern along the front half. This same hue makes its way to the sockliner and heel’s TPU overlay, though the Three Stripes-laden cage comes in a slightly different shade of maroon. Rounding out the look is the white Boost midsole and black rubber outsole.
The Disney x adidas Ultraboost 1.0 DNA Mighty Ducks Pack has already seen a release overseas with a US release date coming by the end of 2022. Releasing in men’s sizing, all three pairs will retail for $200.
