One of the rap games' up-and-coming stars, IDK has worked with various artists from the legendary Young Thug to J.Cole. Alongside his presence in music, he gained Nike's attention and was signed to an endorsement deal in 2021. Since then, he has collaborated on models like the Blazer Mid and AF1 Low. During a visit to his high school, IDK shared with the student body and the world his latest work with The Swoosh that will remain a F&F exclusive - the IDK x Nike Air Max 97 “Free Coast.”
Drawing inspiration from his African heritage, the color scheme from the flags of Ghana and Sierra Leone, both nations where his parents are from, are incorporated into the Air Max 97. Creamy white hues dress most of the models with leather and mesh intertwined into the wavy design of the upper. A portion of this mesh comes in a gradient-like color scheme featuring volt green, blue, and pink and is also spotted on the tongue tags above. Aside from this burst of color, the rest of the sneaker features black/white hits with black details landing on the lace set and sockliner. This theme of fusing both nations' flags into one design plays into the “Free Coast” theme as Cape Coast, Ghana, was a destination where enslaved people were taken from West Africa to America, while Freetown, Sierra Leone, was where many enslaved people fled to be free. Rounding out this design is the creamy Air Max 97 midsole paired with a black/white rubber outsole.
The IDK x Nike Air Max 97 Free Coast will remain a F&F pair and not see a public release. Check below for detailed images of this exclusive pair, and keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest happenings in sneakers, streetwear, and more.
