For the first time in 19 years, Washington, D.C.’s NFL team won a playoff game. Commanders fans (like this author) know that a large part of the reason the team is having a successful season is thanks to rookie QB Jayden Daniels. Fortunately for the cross-over of Commanders fans and sneakerheads, Daniels often takes the field in custom Nike cleats done by Joe Castro, who goes by @arts_undefined on Instagram. This week, in the team’s victory over the Bucs to secure a spot in the NFC Divisional playoffs, the rookie phenom sported a custom pair of Nike Vapor Edge 360s.

While Daniels decided to sport more “hypebeast” inspired pairs in previous weeks, like his homage to the Nike Kobe 5 and Travis Scott’s Air Jordan 1 Low, his first playoff game, he stuck to a more traditional cleat. Across the knit mesh upper, we see a burgundy-red hue in line with the Commanders’ color palette, while the upper edges come with golden speckle paint details. The reverse Swoosh on the lateral side takes on more of the golden color palette, with the logo on the toebox also featuring this hue. Final details on the cleat include the white Nike text on the medial side, the burgundy pull tab, and the gradient black-to-burgundy effect found on the cleated sole unit.

Sticking to this cleat style, which Daniels has rocked a handful of times throughout the NFL season, proved the correct choice. In the game, Daniels went 24 for 36 in passing for 268 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for a team-high 36 yards and became the first rookie QB to lead his team in passing and rushing in a playoff victory.

Daniels and the Commanders will be taking on the Detriot Lions this coming Saturday, with the rookie QB likely to sport another custom pair of cleats to celebrate. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app for more updates on the latest happenings in the sneaker and streetwear world.
