Even though Nike has their hand in just about every sport on the planet, basketball has been a major force in both the brand's history and future. Skyrocketing in popularity thanks to signing Michael Jordan and maintaining that status through key deals with players like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and more, The Swoosh is continually looking for potential future stars emerging in the NBA as the old guard in the NBA begins to reach the tail end of their careers. Key players like Ja Morant are already set to receive their very own signature silhouettes in the coming months while non-NBA talent like Bronny James represents the next generation of talent to fall under the Beaverton-based sportswear giant. Now, as reported by Nick DePaula, news has broken that another up-and-coming talent in the basketball scene has just signed with Nike - the Memphis Grizzlies rookie David Roddy.
As of this writing, the full details of the deal are shrouded in mystery, but we do know that Nike and Roddy have agreed to a “shoe deal.” Likely, this just covers an endorsement as the rookie is still finding his footing in the NBA, though we may see a signature sneaker come out of this down the road, but it's far too early to tell.
For the time being, expect to see David Roddy exclusively rock Nike-branded shoes and gear during the ongoing 2022-2023 NBA season. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest news, raffles, releases, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
