MSCHF needs no introduction as the art collective from NYC has broken into the mainstream over the last few years with controversial releases like their “Satan Shoes” and, more recently, with the internet-breaking Big Red Boots. Although some of these designs are more art pieces than functional footwear, MSCHF has just unveiled its latest sneaker, bringing both form and function to its design. Being able to be worn backwards and forwards, the MSCHF BWD is almost here.
Taking on a mixture of white, grey, red, and black across its upper, the model features a dual-wear design that allows your foot to slide into the back like a classic piece of footwear while also having the toebox open so you can wear it backwards. Although the backwards look is somewhat off-putting, the traditional way of wearing the shoe makes the model appear like an early 2000s skate shoe with a chunky aesthetic. For its construction, white leather panels appear near the toebox, eyestays, and midfoot, while the heel gets a red suede makeover. MSCHF branding is proudly displayed on the heel tab and along the sole unit, while the tongue area features one facing backwards and the other forwards, aiding the wear of the sneaker in either direction. Rounding out the look is the jagged foam midsole that appears like a night sky with its black finish featuring white speckled details paired with a gum rubber outsole. However, if viewed from the other side, a gum rubber midsole appears near the toe (or heel if worn backwards).
The MSCHF BWD will be released on April 11th, 2023, exclusively through the MSCHF Sneakers App. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is currently TBA.
