MSCHF’s entrance into the footwear industry began with a bang as after their second release of the Satan Shoes in collaboration with Lil Nas X, Nike took the art collective to court over trademark infringement not too dissimilar to what is currently going on with BAPE. Not only did Nike take legal action but so did Vans when the Wavy Baby sneakers dropped, however, since these filings took place MSCHF has become a bit more creative with its artistic representation of sneakers and introduced the world to the AF1-like silhouette the Super Normal 2. Originally released and limited to 666 pairs for its “Black” colorway, the new “Common White” sees the model's first wider release.
While its shape may appear like an AF1, the actual leather upper utilized takes on what MSCHF calls a “fully liquified” finish. This translates to wavy patterns of seemingly “melted” leather that create sporadic curves as seen on the toebox, eyestays, and midfoot panels. Keeping things simple, an all-white finish is applied sans the metallic “MSCHF” branded lace dubrae and the label's name spelled in a wavy font on the tongue in black. On the heel, another hit of branding is seen with MSCHF’s “!!!” logo while the design is rounded out by a white rubber midsole and rubber outsole, the latter of which is seen in a wavy pattern.
The MSCHF Super Normal 2 Common White is set to release through the MSCHF Sneakers App on January 31st, 2023. Retailing for $145, the pair will launch in men’s sizing.
