Many today look at New Balance silhouettes, like the 99X series or 550, as lifestyle sneakers, but a large portion of their most popular models was developed for specific sports. Running specifically has had a major role in the history of the brand and they still focus heavily on the sport with silhouettes like the FueCell SC Elite series. To pay homage to one of the biggest marathon events in the world, the NYC Marathon, NB has dressed their latest colorway of the FuelCell SC Elite V3 with direct references to the race.
Patriotic vibes shine through across the knit upper and FueCell-cushioned midsole as red, white, and blue shades make their mark in a gradient-like pattern. Across the upper, red shades take over the majority of the sneaker with a transition to blue occurring back near the heel. Like all FuelCell SC Elite models, large “NB” branding is present on the lateral side with a fused overlay taking on a wing-like design. For eyestays, the red flat laces weave in and out of a bungee cord secured by blue stitching, stopping just below the NYC Marathon logo atop the tongue. Working over to the medial side, “NYC” text is placed along the midfoot in blue while “NB FuelCell SC Elite” branding makes an appearance on the heel in a grey hue. Underfoot, the dual-layered FuelCell midsole comes split by an EnergyArc carbon fiber plate in a gradient red/blue design while the rubber outsole comes in red and white.
The New Balance FuelCell SC Elite V3 TCS NYC Marathon will hit shelves ahead of the actual Marathon that takes place on November 6th, seeing a release on October 18th, 2022. Retailing for $250, the pair will be available in men’s sizing.
