New Balance’s pension for digging into the archives and reviving silhouettes has proven massively successful. Notable pairs that were once forgotten to time and now receiving attention include the New Balance 550, 2002R, and now (though not as famous) the New Balance Rainier. The outdoor boot silhouette has so far been a part of collaborations with Aime Leon Dore and an upcoming one with Joe Freshgoods, while it also has been spotted in a few inline colorways. The latest, free of co-branding, is coming to us in a clean “Macadamia Nut” colorway.
Constructed out of leather and a canvas/ballistic mesh across its upper, we see the model doused in a tonal black throughout the design. Leather panels mark the mudguard, midfoot, heel, and collar, while a canvas-like material grace the toebox, collar, and tongue. Metallic silver D-ring eyestays hold a set of two-tone black and red rope laces that stop just below an “NB” branded tongue tag. This logo continues onto the midfoot and finishes the branding details on the model. Rounding everything out is the creamy white midsole paired with a lugged rubber outsole in a similar shade.
The New Balance Rainier Macadamia Nut will be released in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the pair will retail for $160.
