New Balance has made it a mission to dig into its archives to revive silhouettes that have since fallen to the wayside. The success of the New Balance 550, 2002R, and 1906R are a testament to this mentality, and NB, with the help of Teddy Santis, reintroduced the outdoor-ready Rainier Boot last year with little fanfare. Since then, we’ve seen a series of inline releases hit shelves but the latest features the most significant change thus far - a low-top cut.
Taking on an all-black appearance, the New Balance Rainier Boot Low “Black” keeps things simple with a monochromatic build across its leather and canvas upper. Black leather overlays land along the mudguard, midfoot, heel, and collar, while black canvas peek through the toebox and portions of the midfoot and collar. Tonal laces match the rest of the upper and weave in and out of black metallic D-ring eyelets towards an “NB” logo atop the tongue. Further branding details for the Boston-based brand appear on the midfoot with a debossed “NB” logo and this emblem covering the insole. Leather lining on the sockliner helps round out the top portion of the model, while a black-on-black midsole and Vibram outsole complete the look.
The New Balance Rainier Boot Low Black will be released in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
