As part of the 40th Anniversary of the Air Force 1, Nike gives us the AF1 Low “Bronx Origins,” a sneaker clad with a myriad of details that honors the origins of hip-hop with the sneaker that’s synonymous with the uptown boroughs of New York City.
The Bronx is one of the five major boroughs of New York City. It may not specifically be credited for the “Uptown” nickname of the Air Force 1 Low, but it still represents the theme well. The “Uptown” name comes from the days after the Air Force 1s initial introduction in 1982. MCs and athletes alike took to the Air Force 1’s ruggedly durable full-grain leather upper and modern day comfort in the added Air Sole unit, and as customers would ask shop owners if they had Air Force 1s in stock, the store owners made it known to Nike that the demand was still fresh, well after 1982. So when Nike began restocking the sneaker, New Yorkers from all over quickly discovered that the stores uptown were the ones who had them.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low “Bronx Origins” features an all-white upper in a full-grain, premium pebbled leather. The Nike Swoosh branding on the upper has carbon fiber detailing that mimics the lines of vinyl records to match the vinyl record “Bronx Origins” branding on the insole. Fat white laces across the white tongue feature gold lace dubraes, with 1973 (the birth of hip-hop) on the right, and 1982 (the birth of the Air Force 1) on the left. Nike Anniversary branding is stitched into the tongue tag with gold accenting to boot. The full translucent outsole displays “BRONX” and “ORIGINS” on the left shoe and right shoe, respectively, with the same font being used for the branding on the back heel tab. A classic, clean colorway to honor the classic, clean stylings of the ageless Air Force 1.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low Bronx Origins will be released in October 2022. The sneaker will drop on Nike, via the SNKRS app, and at select Nike Sportswear retailers for a retail price of $150 in unisex sizing.
