Over the past few months, Nike has been going full throttle with the Air Max 1. Celebrating the silhouette's 35th Anniversary, the Beaverton brand has now unwrapped the Nike Air Max 1 "Obsidian Gorge Green."
A homage to vintage varsity jackets, this AM 1 takes a lot of design cues from the retro outerwear piece. Working on top of a deep obsidian mesh base, "midnight navy suede wraps around the top half of the upper, while the bottom half is decorated with a gorge green leather mudguard which results in the ultimate '80s palette. The top two eyelets are decked out in metallic silver, while a crisp white Swoosh shoots across the laterals and medials. A smaller Swoosh is finely embroidered in purple on the toe cap, and this is beautifully complemented by "NIKE" branding at the heel that is done up in a chunky serif font, similar to what you'd find on a college varsity jacket.
The Nike Air Max 1 Obsidian Gorge Green W is set to release in September 2022. A women's-only pair, they will retail for $150.
