Nike's ongoing commitment to celebrating Latin heritage is evident. Its Familia collections have been a beacon of inclusivity, honoring and recognizing important cultural occasions, especially Dia de los Muertos. This traditional Mexican holiday, known as The Day of the Dead, celebrates deceased loved ones and ancestors. For 2023's collection, the Nike Blazer Mid 77 is stepping into the limelight and will launch alongside the Dunk Low, Air Max 1, and Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT 2.
The upcoming Blazer Mid 77 for the Dia de los Muertos collection differentiates itself from its counterparts through its subtle yet captivating color palette. The neutral base of the sneaker is complemented by a beautifully executed ombré effect around the leather sections, lending a delicate transition of color. Vivid pink details make their way onto the Nike branding atop the tongue. In contrast, the iconic Swoosh is rendered in a fuzzy black and gold texture that matches the heel tab. A defining element of this rendition is the embroidered crescent moon with stars on the lateral heel, which has cultural significance and is often associated with Sugar Skulls during the Day of the Dead celebrations. The insoles further the theme, with the right sneaker showcasing the same crescent moon and stars, while the left carries the Nike Familia logo. Underneath, the gum rubber midsole and outsole provide the perfect finish to the shoe. The intricate detailing extends to the packaging, with a specially designed box celebrating Familia and Dia de los Muertos.
The Nike Blazer Mid 77 Dia de los Muertos will release October 21, 2023, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120.
