Central to the Electric Pack's design is the Ostrich print, a celebrated element in the Nike palette first introduced by the legendary designer Tinker Hatfield on the Air Safari in 1987. This distinctive pattern, combined with the striking Total Orange, a signature Nike performance color, creates a timeless and contemporary look.
Caroline Abero, Senior Director of Women’s Footwear and Apparel at Nike, led the team behind the Electric Pack. Abero and her team aimed to create a colorway that felt uniquely Nike and would resonate with athletes and fans alike. "We wanted to take something you wouldn’t think about in the context of performance — the Safari pattern — and create an artifact that signaled this new era of sport," Abero explains. "We’re bringing sport and culture together on the playing field and creating a new look of sport for the next generation."
The Electric Pack’s Ostrich print origin story is as iconic as the print itself. In the '80s, Tinker Hatfield was inspired during a stroll through New York City's SoHo neighborhood, where he spotted a luxurious ostrich print couch in a high-end furniture store. The texture — bumpy, grooved, and organic — was unlike anything seen in performance footwear at the time. Hatfield envisioned bringing this unique aesthetic to Nike's shoes, merging the worlds of athletics and lifestyle in a revolutionary way.
