Cryptocurrency and NFTs have taken a plunge in the latter half of 2022 with “stablecoins” like Bitcoin and Ethereum dipping in price to levels not seen in years. Even with this, large corporations like Nike are still pushing through the decline with the help of web3 brand RTFKT who recently launched a series of NFT Nike AF1s that, unfortunately, couldn’t be forged and redeemed for an IRL pair. It seems, however, that before the forging of their last collab opens up, NiceKicks gave the world an exclusive look at the first non-NFT sneaker from RTFKT and Nike.
Considering RTFKTs futuristic themes, it makes sense Nike would debut the latest in Adapt technology (a self-lacing system inspired by the Air Mag from Back To The Future) with the brand. Wolf Grey hues take over the upper of this brand new silhouette with teal accents landing on “RTFKT” and “Cryptokicks iRL” branding details found on the toebox and lockdown strap respectively. For this aforementioned strap, a criss-cross wing-style design in used in a metallic silver finish and comes connected to the Adapt lacing system for self-lacing through a mobile app or via the lights on the midsole. More RTFKT details can be found on the tongue and heel with the brand's lightning bolt logo dressed in silver and teal respectively. Underfoot, a chunky white midsole featuring teal splattered throughout houses the Adapt auto-lacing system while the semi-translucent icy blue rubber outsole completes the look.
We can confirm that the Nike RTFKT Cryptokicks IRL is set to debut in Holiday 2022. It will retail for $300 in men's sizes. Expect to have to own an RTFKT NFT in order to get access to this pair. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app for more updates on the first-of-its-kind sneaker that brings web3 to life.
