Though nowadays many look at Nike Inc. for its retro series of sneakers like the Air Max or Jordan line (both of which have transformed into lifestyle lines), Nike’s foundation is based on running technology. Most sneakerheads aren’t clamoring for a brand new pair of next-gen running sneakers, however, Nike continues to innovate and provide some of the best silhouettes on the market for running across all categories of the sport. Now, Nike has officially unveiled the Nike Vaporfly 3, the brand’s latest running sneaker that significantly improves on previous iterations.
Taking pivotal data from the Vaporfly 2, the Vaporfly 3 provides updates to the stability, energy return, and transitioning when taking strides. A lightweight Flyknit upper comes with breathable portions near the toe and midfoot to allow for maximum all-day comfort while its asymmetrical lacing system makes its fit feel more natural. Large Nike branding is sprayed across the lateral side of the upper while mini hits of branding land on the vamp, medial collar, and tongue. Underfoot is where things really come beefed up even though the sole unit remains unchanged in terms of its Flyplate and ZoomX cushioning. As described by Nike, the “reductive midsole geometry” takes on a convex shape that makes the ride comfortable and stable at the same time.
For its launch, the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% 3 will release in a “Prototype” colorway that pays tribute to Nike Running’s team that developed the model. On the sole, you’ll find numbers (57 and 20126-23) that nod to the number of Flyknit uppers tested before landing the retail versions design and a wear-testers ID number respectively. The white/black colorway throughout the upper is also a nod to the very colorway of the Vaporfly line.
The Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% 3 Prototype is set to release on March 6th, 2023 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $250.
