Kendrick Lamar's and Dave Free's brainchild, pgLang, has previously lent its artistic touch to Converse footwear, and their collaborative pieces have turned many heads. Not only is pgLang itself associated with Converse, but Baby Keem, the talented artist and cousin to Kendrick, is also an ambassador for the footwear brand, cementing this partnership even further. Now, fans of both entities are set for a treat as they roll out their latest masterpiece, a reimagined Chuck 70.
Opting for a minimalist aesthetic, the Chuck 70 by pgLang and Converse offers two distinct versions, but the catch? You won't know which variant you'll get until you unbox it. The intriguing mystery lies in the midsole piping. While both shoes boast a robust black canvas upper, metallic eyelets, and a traditional lace setup, the distinction becomes clear upon closer inspection. One pair flaunts Converse Navy pinstriping on the left shoe, juxtaposed with Irish Cream on the right. The alternate pair swaps these shades, with Irish Cream gracing the left and Converse Red accentuating the right. Special "pgLang for Converse" branding is tastefully placed on the medial collar. However, it's the unconventional twist on the heel branding that captivates – replacing the iconic Converse All-Star badge on the left shoe is a mirrored message that reads, "You took the time to read this. So you're probably open-minded. Try these on for good luck." A classic white Chuck 70 midsole and a gum rubber outsole complete the design, maintaining the sneaker's timeless appeal.
The pgLang x Converse Chuck 70 Hi will release November 2, 2023, through Converse online. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $100.
