Even if the NFT and Web3 market has cooled significantly from the highest highs of the early 2020s, Nike is still going all-in on the concept. We see this through its more accessible .SWOOSH program, which recently launched a pre-order of the new Air Max 1 Low Poly and the high-end RTFKT releases. For the latter, they recently shipped out their pre-orders from last year on the Dunk Low Genesis and launched the Void colorway over the summer on the SNKRS app. However, 100 random customers who pre-ordered the pairs via RTFKT have now been gifted one of two special colorways of the RTFKT x Nike NEKO Camo Dunk.
According to Zapito, one of the co-founders of RTFKT, the codename for these colorways is "The Cat Tongues," with the textured pattern placed across the panels reminiscent of the tiny, sharp spines found on a cat's tongue. One pair comes in a fiery orange hue, covering the various panels in this shade, while the second colorway takes on an aqua-green shade. Both feature tonal colors on the cat tongue-like textured materials, giving the upper an almost gradient-like effect. Separating each of the panels is the same skeletal-like black TPU on the upper of the Genesis Dunk, and just like the aforementioned sneaker, the branding is split between a Swoosh on the lateral side and RTFKT's lightning bolt on the left. Removable hardware attached to the tongue and heel contains tonal hits that match each pair. The blacked-out RTFKT Dunk midsole finishes the design, which adds Zoom Air cushioning and a techy, brutalist aesthetic to the model, paired with a rubber outsole.
Unfortunately for the public, these two RTFKT x Nike NEKO Camo Dunk pairs are exclusive to the 100 random customers who RTFKT gifted.
