If you told sneakerheads that Skechers would have a former NBA MVP and multiple NBA stars on its roster of athletes, they’d scoff at you. However, the LA-based footwear brand made major moves, signing stars like Joel Embiid, Julius Randle, and others when it first entered the performance basketball space, so far launching models like the SKX Reign, SKX Float, and SKX Nexus. After giving Terance Mann a Cookies ‘N Cream SKX Nexus PE in November, Skechers has crafted Christmas Day PE sneakers for Joel Embiid and Julius Randle.
Both Skechers athletes were given a different performance model, Randle with the SKX Reign and Embiid with the SKX Float. Starting with Randle, his pair features a frosty white colorway across the engineered mesh and fused TPU upper, adding a candy cane-inspired design to the nylon lockdown rops along the collar. Snow-inspired fuzzy laces also aid in the Christmas theme, while branding details take on a golden finish near the toe and heel.
Moving to Embiid’s pair, his SKX Float pays homage to his Cameroonian roots by featuring traditional national colors alongside Christmas-inspired details. The most overt nod to the holiday comes via the tongue tag, featuring Noel on the left shoe and Joel on the left, playing on the Latin word for Christmas and Embiid’s first name. We see a mixture of white, red, blue, and sky blue hues spread across the upper for its color palette. The midsole below features a cream finish with gold glitter sprinkled throughout.
The Skechers SKX Float and SKX Reign worn by Embiid and Randle will remain exclusive to each player. However, Skechers has been teasing that Joel and the footwear label are working on a signature sneaker for the 76ers superstar, so be on the lookout for updates.
