Skechers has unveiled its first-ever line of high-performance basketball shoes. This exciting move comes just as the NBA season kicks off, presenting a combination of elite performance capabilities and unbeatable comfort to athletes of every caliber.
The inaugural basketball range from Skechers comprises two standout mid-top styles: the SKX Resagrip and the SKX FLOAT. Both these designs meld advanced footwear technologies with the brand's hallmark comfort, ensuring players feel as good as they look on the court.
In a strategic move, Skechers has tapped New York Knicks power forward Julius Randle and Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Terance Mann to represent the brand's new basketball division. These top-tier athletes are set to be the first to compete wearing Skechers Basketball shoes. Following extensive training sessions and preseason games donning this footwear, both Randle and Mann were thoroughly impressed.
Greg Smith, Skechers Performance's VP of Product Development and Merchandising, commented on this new venture, saying, “Following our road map for success as a breakthrough brand in running, golf, pickleball, and global football, we’re leveraging the insight and feedback of pros like Julius Randle and Terance Mann to authenticate our position as a performance brand with the best basketball shoes on the court.”
The president of Skechers, Michael Greenberg, emphasized the brand's dedication to growing in this segment. "Along with our recent entry into the soccer business, Skechers now offers high-performance footwear for athletes competing in the two biggest sports on the planet. This is the start of a long-term investment in basketball with more player partnerships, which is essential for our growth strategy and vision. We’re launching in the three largest stand-alone basketball markets—the U.S., China and the Philippines—with expansion to more regions expected in the future.”
The two new silhouettes and signings of Julius Randle and Terance Mann signal that Skechers is going all-in on their venture into performance basketball sneakers. There are also rumors Joel Embiid my be leaving Under Armour and signing with the Skechers.
The new performance basketball models, SKX Resagrip and SKX FLOAT, boast features tailored for on-court excellence. The SKX Resagrip caters to players known for their speed and agility, with its Goodyear Resagrip Technology ensuring maximum cushioning and responsiveness. In contrast, the SKX FLOAT is the go-to choice for those seeking optimal stability, facilitated by strategically placed TPU and a lightweight Swirl Tech design.
Julius Randle shared his enthusiasm, noting, "It’s an incredible experience working with Skechers. They’re new to the sport, so we have the opportunity to do exciting things outside the box in a positive and impactful way.”
Terance Mann echoed similar sentiments, stating, "From the first moment I stepped onto the court in Skechers, I knew these shoes were the real deal—they’re so comfortable and also represent my style."
For fans and athletes eager to get their hands on these shoes, the Skechers Basketball collection will release on October 30, 2023, skechersbasketball.com, Skechers' North American retail stores, and select retailers in the Philippines and China.
