As the world continues to celebrate the legacy of Kobe Bryant, a pivotal piece of basketball history becomes available to the highest bidder. Sotheby's, the prestigious auction house, has announced an auction that will feature a pair of Nike Kobe 8 sneakers worn by the legendary Lakers star during the 2012-2013 NBA season. The auction also features another significant lot, a game-worn adidas Top Ten, representing Bryant's first NBA appearance.
The Nike Kobe 8 is revered among sneakerheads and basketball fans for its cutting-edge technology and distinctive style epitomizing Bryant's play. The model being auctioned is a Lakers Home Player Exclusive (PE) colorway that Kobe wore in a game against the Washington Wizards, where he tallied a double-double with 21 points and 11 assists. This specific PE features a white and grey mesh upper adorned with a pattern similar to the upcoming Venice Beach retro. Accents of Lakers purple highlight the Swoosh, sockliner, and branding on the tongue and heel, while gold details on the foam midsole and a yellow outsole complete the design. This game-worn pair captures a snapshot of Bryant's relentless dedication on the court despite the Lakers' narrow loss to the Wizards with a score of 103-100.
The game-worn Nike Kobe 8 Lakers Home PE auction will conclude on April 10, 2024, through Sotheby's, with an estimated lot selling price between $15,000 and $30,000. As of this writing, the highest bid sits at $1,600.
