adidas Basketball has been experiencing a major resurgence, largely thanks to the signature sneaker lines of current NBA stars Anthony Edwards and James Harden. However, long before these athletes dominated the court, one of the most iconic adidas Basketball athletes was Kobe Bryant. Kobe, who initially signed with adidas in his rookie season, left an indelible mark with his signature sneakers. Despite Kobe’s departure to Nike in the early 2000s, adidas continues to pay homage to his legacy by retro-releasing his classic models under new names. One such model that has been making a comeback is the adidas Crazy 1 (formerly known as the adidas Kobe), with adidas now retroing the original Playoffs colorway, which Kobe wore during the 2000 NBA Playoffs.
The return of the Crazy 1 Playoff comes on the heels of the successful retro of the KB8 2 Lakers Home, now called the Crazy 98. This upcoming release stays true to the original design that drew inspiration from the sleek lines of the Audi TT Roadster. Unlike many of its counterparts, this iteration features a mesh base, which aids breathability while retaining the iconic look.
The sneaker showcases a greyscale color palette with black accents on the laces, collar, tongue lining, and heel. The heel also features a clear plastic tab, reminiscent of a vehicle's taillights. The signature Three Stripes are subtly debossed into the midfoot, while adidas' Trefoil logo is prominently displayed on the heel tab. Underfoot, a black EVA-cushioned midsole ensures comfort, complemented by a black and yellow rubber outsole for traction.
The adidas Crazy 1 Playoff will release in June 2024 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
