adidas’ strong offerings from its modern-day performance basketball lineup are paving the way for a new golden era of adidas Basketball. Before Anthony Edwards made headlines for the brand, the roots of adidas Basketball's success stretched back to the late '90s and early 2000s, when the brand produced signature sneakers for Kobe Bryant. The Crazy 98 was a key part of this lineup, originally known as the KB8 II. Following the revival of the OG colorway, the adidas Crazy 98 has appeared in another OG rendition: Collegiate Purple.
Like the OG Power Purple colorway, the adidas Crazy 98 Collegiate Purple features an upper constructed from leather and mesh. Predominantly dressed in a rich purple hue, it mirrors the iconic colors of the Los Angeles Lakers. White piping accentuates the leather overlays, contrasting and highlighting the sneaker's dynamic lines.
Black detailing is used strategically across the toecap, lace loops, and sockliner, providing a bold counterpoint to the purple and white. One of the standout features of the Crazy 98 is its semi-hidden Three Stripes logo, which appears in white beneath a clear TPU panel on the midfoot, subtly integrated into the purple mesh upper. Completing the look is a white adiPRENE+ midsole with cushioning and support, paired with a black and purple rubber outsole for durable traction.
The adidas Crazy 98 Collegiate Purple will release in August 2024 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
