Over the course of 7 years, Ye and the team over at adidas Yeezy had countless samples and models in development for what was once the biggest collaboration in footwear history. While 2022 was a year of restocks for the label as we saw the return of iconic colorways across the entire Yeezy lineup including the Yeezy 350 V1 Turtle Dove, 2023 was going to be a return to form with innovations across the board. Following his mantra of going laceless, images have begun to surface of what would have been the adidas Yeezy 700 V4, though adidas has had their hand in newer versions of the model as is their right based on the contract between Yeezy and adidas.
The 700 line in general has been a major success for adidas and Yeezy with 5 iterations of the model (the 700 V1, V2, V3, MNVN, and MNVN Laceless) hitting the market so far. For what would have been the first V4 in the entire Yeezy lineup, Ye switched up the material makeup and general shape of the V3 through its use of foam similar to that of the Foam RNNR across the upper while knit remained below the exoskeleton side cage. In one early image (dating to September of 2022) from an overseas factory, we can see an MX-marbled pattern taking on blue hues that appear almost galactic-like in appearance while more recent photos (from after the split) showcase an all-foam (or rubber) construction with neoprene actings as the internal construction. As mentioned previously, Ye was pushing for laceless silhouettes to become mainstream and the upper here takes cues from the aforementioned MNVN Laceless model as a thick cushioned neoprene takes over the tongue portion. Underfoot, we’re unsure if the same EVA foam utilized on the 700 V3, Boost, or the EVA and algae composite from the Foam RNNR are used for cushioning, though it does appear to be more foam-like unlike the harder rubber found on other 700s.
The adidas Yeezy 700 V4 (as it was called prior to the split) was set to release in 2023, though we should be seeing some name change once this model does eventually make it to retail shelves. Expect the model to release in men’s sizing and be available through adidas Confirmed and select retailers online and in-store.
