The Air Jordan 9 holds a special place in Michael Jordan's storied career, most notably associated with his brief foray into baseball. In 1993, following his first retirement from the NBA, Michael Jordan joined the Birmingham Barons, a minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. During this period, Jordan was spotted in various Air Jordan 9 colorways tailored to fit the Barons' team colors. This May, the legacy of MJ's baseball career is celebrated through the release of the Air Jordan 9 Golf Barons PE, a direct nod to a PE colorway Jordan wore on the field, now re-engineered for golf. Alongside this nod to the Barons, the Jordan 1 Low OG will take on a theme reminiscent of the Barons team colors.
The Air Jordan 9 Golf Barons PE exhibits a luxurious all-black upper combining smooth leather with plush suede on the mudguard, crafting a premium look and feel. Contrasting white accents are seamlessly integrated into the lace set and sockliner. At the same time, the iconic 45 - Jordan's number during his baseball stint - is prominently displayed in a gothic font on the heel. The insole features a pinstripe pattern, reminiscent of the Barons' uniforms, with a 45 on the right shoe and a classic Jumpman on the left, paying homage to Jordan's dual-sport legacy. The shoe includes a golf-ready outsole equipped with removable spikes, ensuring optimal grip and performance on the course.
The Air Jordan 9 Golf Barons PE will release on May 17, 2024, through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $230.
