New Balance’s ascension in the “hype” world of sneakers has archival silhouettes to thank as the revival of the New Balance 550, 2002R, and, more recently, the 1906R has brought attention to the Boston-based label. For the latter of the three models, the silhouette has been spotted in a series of color schemes; however, the latest sticks to NB’s favorite greyscale palette with the “Rain Cloud” colorway.
Covered in a monochromatic grey dubbed “Rain Cloud” with accenting hits of red, the New Balance 1906R retains its typical construction consisting of mesh, leather, and TPU. Triangular-shaped overlays around the toebox and midfoot feature intricate lines in white atop its grey finish, with the open-faced mesh below this receiving a similar grey makeover. Tonal grey laces work up the tongue and stop below the NB-branded tongue tag that receives hits of red on its text and outline. More hits of red appear on the small “NLOCK” branded “N” logo along the midfoot, back on the heel’s “NB” logo, and on the insole’s branding details. Underfoot sits a grey 860v2 midsole with NERGY branding in red paired with a grey and red rubber outsole.
The New Balance 1906R Rain Cloud will be released on April 3rd, 2023, through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
