New Balance’s lineup of retro-inspired runners has seen a significant rise in popularity, with models like the 1906R leading the charge among sneakerheads and fashion circles alike. Capitalizing on the ongoing demand for techy, versatile footwear, New Balance is set to drop a fresh take on the 1906 series in the form of the 1906L Loafer. Following teases at other renditions, including collaborations with Junya Watanabe and inline colorways like the Metallic Silver, Triple Black, and Raincloud editions, the upcoming all-black mesh iteration adds a sleek, understated option to the mix.
The New Balance 1906L Loafer in Black Mesh stays true to the model's sporty roots while introducing subtle design cues that give it a loafer-inspired edge. The upper features a green-tinted black mesh base that offers breathability while retaining a modern, stealthy vibe. Premium black leather overlays are positioned strategically along the mudguard, midfoot, and forefoot, maintaining the look of the OG 1906R. Unlike traditional loafers, the 1906L incorporates New Balance’s signature TPU heel counter in black for added stability and support, ensuring that it’s stylish and functional.
Branding details are minimal, with a small N logo on the toebox and 1906L text on the lateral heel. Underfoot, the model incorporates a foam midsole borrowed from the 860v2, tinted in a subtle greenish-black hue that adds depth to the design. The outsole is finished in black rubber.
The New Balance 1906L Loafer Black Mesh will release either by the end of 2024 or early parts of 2025 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
