With the last year or so being dominated by ALD and their revival of the New Balance 550, the Boston-based brand is looking to push forward the 2002R model. On top of the upcoming “Protection Pack” coming in a handful of new colorways and a JFG-led “Conversations Among Us” collab, New Balance is adding utility to the lifestyle model with the latest offering featuring a removable pouch.
Keeping things in the NB realm, the silhouettes premium suede, mesh, and leather makeup don a mixture of grey, brown, and silver. Sandwiched between the tan suede on the toebox and heel tab is a mix of grey suede overlays with silver leather accenting nicely throughout the profile. The most eye catching detail comes atop the laces with a removable storage pouch in a two-tone grey and orange ripstop material. Looking towards the rear you’ll notice a patch of brown perforated leather sitting above the grey mesh base. Branding remains standard throughout with the midfoot’s N, New Balance on the tongue and heel. as well as the 2002R stamped near the collar. Rounding out the look is the worn-in tan NERGY midsole paired to the navy, black, and tan rubber outsole.
The New Balance 2002R “Removable Pouch” Grey is slated to release in Japan on April 21, 2022 with a wider release going down later in the year through New Balance and select NB retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
