Super shoes in the running category have become a focal point for all footwear brands. However, the average runner doesn’t need to spend the money that these shoes demand. Nike’s latest running silhouette, the Zoom Fly 6, incorporates many of the same qualities as Nike's super shoes, but comes in at a much more affordable price compared to models like the Alphafly 3.
During development, Nike’s roster of elite athletes helped fine-tune the model after testing out samples. Included in this was Eliud Kipchoge, who tested the shoe on asphalt and dirt roads in Kenya, informing designers of ways to balance comfort and protection. As for the tech within, Nike updated the Zoom Fly’s upper with a two-layer woven mesh system that offers comfort and a sock-like fit without sacrificing breathability, durability, or weight. With these redesigns, the sneaker weighs about 10% less than the Zoom Fly 5. The tooling features Nike’s ZoomX and SR-02 foam, a FlyPlate shank, and the sneaker itself comes with the highest stack height in Nike’s racing lineup.
“This is the shoe runners should choose for their workouts all week long, instead of the ‘super shoes’ some are using for their long runs and fartleks,” Eliud says. “The redesigned Zoom Fly performs at a high level and is very responsive, with wonderful cushioning from impact and great movement from heel to forefoot.”
The Nike Zoom Fly 6 will debut in the Vivid Grape Hyper Pink colorway on November 1, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Later, in December, Nike will launch a colorway in collaboration with Eliud Kipchoge alongside multiple Nike Running sneakers. Available in unisex sizing, the Zoom Fly 6 retails for $170.
