Football and sneakers may not be the same dynamic duo that basketball and sneakers are, but we still see some fresh kicks hit the turf. While NFL athletes like Deebo Samuel and Stefon Diggs are spotted in custom Jordan Brand-inspired cleats, their parent company, The Swoosh, has begun to give select athletes exclusive pairs of Deion Sander’s signature sneaker-inspired cleats. So far, the only NFL player to receive the Nike Vapor DT Max ‘96 has been Kyler Murray, getting an Oregon Ducks-like colorway and a Black/Yellow rendition. Now, the actual football program over at the University of Oregon is set to rock its own colorway of the so-far-exclusive cleats.
Covering the upper is green nubuck, landing on the toebox, midfoot, and heel while mesh and knit in the same shade make up the tongue and collar portion. Just like the Deion Sander’s sneakers from the 90s, a claw-like design makes up the midfoot with white leather slashing through the nubuck. More contrasting white shades appear on the lace set while the lockdown strap and midfoot host yellow Nike Swoosh branding details. Considering this pair is specifically made for the Ducks, the Oregon logo makes an appearance on the nylon pull tab. Rounding out the look is the turf-ready outsole with spikes coming in clear and green, featuring another hit of Nike branding through a yellow Swoosh near the toe.
The Oregon x Nike Vapor DT Max ‘96 P will remain exclusive to the Oregon Ducks football team and will be worn this Saturday, October 29th during their game against the California Golden Bears. Considering we’re seeing this cleat more and more, a possible release of GR colorways could go down in the future.
