While many anime collaborations come courtesy of the retailer BAIT, the Cali-based skate brand Vans has plans to take a trip to Japan and honor one of the most iconic anime series of all time, Sailor Moon. This Sailor Moon x Vans Collection includes multiple colorways on classic Vans silhouettes and clothing, enough to keep the whole family strapped in anime themed kicks.
Starting with footwear, silhouettes ranging from the Vans ComfyCush Slip-On to the iconic Vans Sk8-Hi get a redesign featuring characters from Sailor Moon printed on them. On the previously mentioned ComfyCush, a split design is present, displaying the Sailor Guardians on one sneaker while the other houses the Dark Kingdom. The Vans Sk8-Hi Stacked adds textiles that contrast the satin quarters and smooth leather overlays. Symbols of the Sailor Guardians planet are featured on the toe bumpers and translucent heel.
With the Vans Authentic, another graphic featuring the Sailor Guardians comes alongside an appearance from Tuxedo Mask. The women’s La Costa Slide-On is constructed out of a synthetic nubuck, once again housing Sailor Guardians graphics. A colorful and artsy patch print takes over the Vans Old Skool Patchwork, taking the famous checkerboard print and tying it with each of the Sailor Guardians. On top of premade options, the Vans Customs program will allow fans to create their own version of footwear, introducing three new prints that feature Sailor Moon and the four Sailor Guardians.
Clothing also takes the two brands and fuses them together, coming in sizes that will fit every man, woman, and child. Taking inspiration from the iconic Sailor Moon sailor suit is the Women’s BFF Crew Fleece. Graphic tees sport images of Sailor Moon with the Moon Stick alongside co-branded Vans and Sailor Moon text. Hats and backpacks get the co-branded Sailor Moon x Vans treatment, coming with various patches and embroidery.
The entire Sailor Moon x Vans Collection is set to release on June 10th, 2022 through Vans and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in full-family sizing, the retail pricing has yet to be announced. On top of this release, a second capsule is set to launch later in the year that will feature Vans athlete Lizzie Armanto.
