Takashi Murakami’s Louis Vuitton LV Trainer is Available Now
Updated on •PublishedThe bridge between high-fashion, streetwear, and sneaker culture has been formed for decades. One of the first instances of this meeting of two worlds dates back to the mid-2000s when Japanese artist Takashi Murakami was tasked by one luxury fashion house, Louis Vuitton, to create a collection of apparel and accessories. Today, pieces from Murakami’s collection fetch astronomical prices on the aftermarket and are often spotted on celebrities like Travis Scott and the Kardashians. However, twenty years later, Murakami and LV are teaming up for a new project in 2025, including new footwear offerings.
While Murakami tackles staple items from Louis Vuitton, including various trunks, bags, accessories, and even skateboards, the footwear component (for our sake as sneakerheads) comprises the Virgil Abloh-designed LV Trainer silhouette. Two colors are present here: one in a stark white with a multi-color Damier print, a signature detail from the original Murakami LV collection, and a black pair that also features this vibrant graphic. Full-grain calf leather constructs the sneaker, with tonal stitching details and contrasting trim on the side panel.
Aside from the loud Damier print, other Louis Vuitton branding details are found along the midfoot with the gold Louis Vuitton signature print, on the tongue via the LV logo, and on the heel, with the number 54 referencing 1854, the year the house was founded. Those in the know can spot the Murakami influence from the Damier print, though actual branding for the artist is reserved for the insole. Down below, the silhouette comes complete with a tonal midsole and outsole.
The Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton LV Trainer Pack is available for pre-order if you have a Client Advisor. The public will be able to secure the sneakers and the whole collection on January 3, 2025. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $1,660.
