With retro basketball silhouettes and foam-based slip-ons reigning supreme in the sneaker world, Tom Sachs went against the grain with his NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe (GPS). Making what even he dubs a “boring” design, the sneaker is built to be worn-down and beat up and often comes in colors that age like a fine wine with wear. Recently revealed in a “White Gorge Green” colorway, a tonal “Rattan” is headed our way.
Taking on the same construction seen on previous colorways of the GPS, the entire mesh, TPU, and suede upper comes covered in tonal shades of Rattan. While the suede and mesh stick to a lighter hue of tan, the TPU layer along the toebox and the Nike Swoosh come in a slightly darker shade that provides some depth to the monochromatic design. As for the rest of the model, suede panels on the heel tab and eyestays match the surrounding materials with branding details atop the tongue sticking to the same shade. Underfoot sits a rubber midsole in rattan paired with a lugged rubber outsole in a matching shade.
The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe Rattan is set to release Holiday 2023 through Tom Sachs' website, Nike SNKRS, and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price will increase by $10 compared to prior releases and sell for $120.
