Vans has arguably one of the most iconic footwear designs on the planet with the Vans Old Skool as its simple construction makes it a fit for almost anyone’s wardrobe. Because of the simple, yet effective design, there have been plenty of copycats over its history but none became as popular as Ian Connor’s Revenge x Storm during the mid-2010s. Its most eye-catching detail, the lightning bolt replacing the usual Vans Jazz Stripe, became an icon of streetwear culture for the era, though its popularity eventually faded as trends shifted. Now years later, Vans is taking a crack at revitilzing the Vans Old Skool with the Vans Old Skool Bolt adding the lightning bolt detail to the silhouette.
Seen here in four colorways so far, the sneaker keeps its typical build give for one added feature - a vulcanized rubber portion extending from the sole to the upper in a lightning bolt design. This added detail features piping around its edge that matches the suede panels of the upper for each respective colorway (so far seen in “Green,” “Navy,” “Red,” and “Black”) which appear on the toebox, eyestays, and heel. Still remaining is the Jazz Stripe logo which rests atop a white canvas. Rounding out the design is the white vulcanized rubber midsole with a red Vans-branded tag on the heel paired with a gum rubber outsole.
The Vans Old Skool Bolt has already seen a release on March 14th, 2023 through boutiques like Oneness, though a wider release through Vans online and in-store is expected in the coming weeks. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $75.
