With a history spanning 75 years, Dr. Martens is one of the last true boot manufacturers in the footwear industry as they still maintain orthodox traditions in the construction process. Their most famous silhouette, the 1461, has seen many collaborators tackle its tried and true design, like the recent ENGINEERED GARMENTS rendition. Now the UK-based brand is heading to Japan and hiring BAPE’s sublabel AAPE to create two colorways of the Dr. Martens 1461.
Coming in an "Olive" and a "Black" colorway, the boot maintains its high-quality leather construction while adding classic AAPE details and hopping into the AAPE Universe. Debossed on the toebox is the AAPE logo with the text “SOMEWHERE IN THE AAPE UNIVERSE” seen just below, located near the three eyestays home to black laces. More AAPE branding is found on the tag located along the midfoot while the spine of the heel is debossed with “AAPE UNVS.” Just above this, the standard Dr. Martens pull-tab denotes the “Bouncing Soles” used in the boot, written in the brands iconic yellow shade. Underfoot, contrasting yellow stitching combines the black sole unit and upper together. On the outsole, semi-translucent rubber allows you to see the AAPE branding details located on the forefoot.
The AAPE x Dr. Martens 1461 Collection is set to release on September 16th, 2022, through Dr. Martens, and AAPE online and in-store. As of this writing, sizing and pricing information is TBA.
