Marijuana has been a touchy subject for decades. However, recent years have seen a much more mainstream acceptance of the drug. Even when it was more of a hush-hush topic, sneaker companies were crafting weed-themed sneaker colorways that mimicked the green shade found on good bud - adidas included. In 2023, The Three Stripes is adding a removable layer to its adidas Campus 80s, revealing a marijuana-like suede construction below.
Fresh out of the box, adidas Campus 80s “420 Crop” comes covered in a brown paper that shields the green suede below, though it does peek through around the eyestays. Tonal light green laces match the shade of the sockliner, while the lining of the interior and insole come in a multi-color tie-dye. The adidas Trefoil logo also receives a trippy, weed-themed makeover on the insole, though further branding details remain faithful to the OG. Once the brown paper is removed, a hairy green suede covers the upper with the midfoot and heel hosting Three Stripes branding. Rounding out the look is the clear rubber midsole and outsole that somewhat appears to have GITD features.
The adidas Campus 80s 420 Crop is set to release on April 20th, 2023, through select EU retailers, while a worldwide drop via adidas is still up in the air. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at €100 (approx $110 USD).
