With a unique take on two different models, the adidas Dia de los Muertos Collection will arrive in time for the ancestors to be celebrated in style. Using the Samba and the CrazyChaos 2000 as the base silhouettes, The Brand With Three Stripes looks to pay homage to the essential cultural gathering. The Day of the Dead occurs on the 1st of November and is a day of rich history, especially in Mexico and for people of Mexican heritage. With its roots going back over 500 years, maybe even thousands, the day is used to remember the souls who have passed on, celebrate them in a festive spirit, and reminisce fondly. Added by UNESCO in 2008 to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the days' festivities and customs have grown in recent years. The growth of awareness has led to the day being adopted as part of pop culture, and this isn't the first occasion el Dia de los Muertos has inspired adidas designs.
The latest adidas Dia de los Muertos Collection features two Sambas, using reverse color palettes. Both pairs feature a leather upper with nubuck on the back heel tabs and T-toe area. Vividly contrasting, looped stitching is used around the edge of the T-toe and heel. At the same time, the skeleton look becomes apparent with the lace stay that's separated into three different sections.
Small colorful embroidery is applied to the top of the lace stay, and a tag with a smiling skeletal face and top hat further the theme. One pair uses a predominantly Core Black upper with off-white accents, while the other uses reverse hues to present a choice of dark and light. Both shoes come with custom-printed insoles bearing more imagery correlating directly to the Day of the Dead. Dark gum-colored outsoles finish off each pair.
In addition to the Samba, there are two adidas CrazyChaos 2000 colorways, again using the reverse color-blocking technique between the pairs. The mesh base features overlays of leather and suede, with the lace stay separated into three different sections. An additional overlay wrapping around the heel is adorned with the EQT logo, perforations, and vibrant embroidered flowers on the lateral sides. The looped stitched also appears around the heel and toe guard, though this time, both pairs have more flashes of color.
One pair is primarily core black with off-white medial panels, and flashes of crew orange appear at the heel. The other pair is the reverse; core black overlays contrast with off-white hues, while crew orange appears on the tongue. Both pairs have Three Stripes branding on the sides, edged with colorful piping in shades of pink, orange, and yellow. Again, tongue tags and insoles carry imagery traditionally denoted to the Day of the Dead. The midsoles of each shoe use CLOUDFOAM technology, finished with a gum sole.
The adidas Dia de los Muertos Collection is set to release on September 27, 2024, through adidas and select retailers in-store and online. The Samba will be available in men's sizing for $120 while the CrazyChaos 2000 will be available for men and women for $80.
