The adidas Samba's resurgence in recent times is nothing short of phenomenal, with its demand skyrocketing and even eclipsing that of revered models like the Nike Dunk Low Panda. adidas has adeptly navigated this surge in popularity by introducing collaborations and fresh variations of the Samba, such as the Samba XLG and Sambae, which align with the oversized and robust aesthetics reminiscent of the Y2K era and skate culture. Yet, nodding to its rich heritage, adidas opts to rejuvenate the Samba Millennium, a version that debuted in 2009 primarily for indoor soccer and was subsequently shelved.
The revival of the Samba Millennium isn't without precedent; the Brooklyn-based fashion powerhouse Adsum rekindled interest in this model with their November 2023 collaboration. For its 2024 inline release, adidas retains the essence of the Samba's original design ethos, presenting two quintessential colorways: Black White, and White Black. Each pair is meticulously crafted, featuring a traditional T-toe suede overlay complemented by a leather upper, epitomizing the classic Samba aesthetic. The design is accented with the iconic Three Stripes, a heel tab, and adidas branding that gracefully sits atop the tongue. The midfoot is adorned with gold Samba text, lending a touch of elegance to this athletic silhouette.
However, the most notable deviation from the traditional Samba design lies beneath the shoe. The Samba Millennium boasts a revamped sole unit that distinguishes it from its predecessors. It integrates white foam, a semi-translucent gum outsole, and a strategically placed Torsion plate, enhancing its functional performance and visual appeal.
The adidas Samba Millennium in Black White and White Black will release on May 1, 2024, through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $150.
