The adidas Tobacco is Back in Team Victory Red and Collegiate Green
adidas is delving into its archive to retro some vintage classics, particularly the Tobacco. This move is part of a significant resurgence for The Brand With The Three Stripes, particularly within its Classics division, which has been prominently highlighting models like the Samba, Handball Spezial, and Gazelle Indoor. Additionally, the Tobacco model is featured by atmos as part of the Japanese streetwear boutique's 25th Anniversary celebration.
First introduced in 1972, a significant year for the brand as it underwent a major rebranding and expansion, the adidas Tobacco has a long history. This smart casual, low-cut silhouette was designed as a leisure shoe, marking one of the first instances in which adidas designed a product not explicitly intended for a sports discipline. The name Tobacco comes from its original brown color scheme, which features a muted and neutral look considered conservative.

In the 1980s, adidas began producing the Tobacco under license in Japan. Japanese consumers preferred more vibrant and bold colors, creating a new range of Tobacco shoes exclusively released for the Asian market. This was long before the internet was a thing, and in the years since, these original pairs have become iconic and highly sought after by collectors and sneakerheads.
Now being reissued on a 1:1 basis, two of those original Japanese colorways return for 2025. One pair is in vibrant team victory red suede, with tonal power red hues adorning the Three Stripes and heel patch. The other pair is again a full suede construction, daubed in collegiate green with mineral green contrasts.

Both pairs keep the minimal and sleek look traditional to the originals. Retro Trefoil graphics sit on each tongue, with linear adidas branding along the insoles. Finished by hard-wearing gum-colored rubber outsoles underfoot, the classic aesthetic is complete.
The adidas Tobacco in Team Victory Red and Collegiate Green are set to release on March 1, 2025, via adidas and select retailers online and in-store.
