If there's one thing that's set to dominate the industry in 2023, it's the retro sneaker trend that's literally all the rage these days. This year, JJJJound will be taking on the Samba, and Sean Wotherspoon has his sights set on the Gazelle. As if that wasn't enough, the godfather of Japanese fashion has now revealed his rendition of the Superstar with the adidas Y-3 Superstar Black, and even at a glance you can tell that this is a Yohji Yamamoto design through and through. Bringing together the classic with the contemporary, make sure you read on to find out everything that we know so far.
From a distance, Yamamoto's Superstar might look like just another "Triple Black" colorway, but upon closer inspection you'll find that there's way more than meets the eye. Boasting a premium leather construction that has been completely blacked out from heel to toe, one of the first things that you'll notice is the removal of the retro shell design in favor of a smooth front cap that's as minimal as it gets. The Three Stripes on the lateral and medial sidewalls are decked out in loose stitching, similar to what Yohji did on his Gazelle Pack, and a dash of buttery suede takes over the heel for an even more luxurious fit and finish. The Superstar is then rounded off with the legendary Y-3 logo, finalizing the understated yet unique aesthetic.
The adidas Y-3 Superstar Black is set to release in 2023 in men's sizes at adidas, Y-3, and select retailers worldwide. Expect a premium retail price that has yet TBA, and make sure you keep it locked on Sole Retriever's Twitter and Mobile App for the latest sneaker and streetwear news, releases, and raffles.
