Yeezy's design language in recent memory evokes images of laceless models, foam-based materials, and futuristic organic designs. Though this was the case when the partnership was still active, The Three Stripes was digging back into the archives and bringing back countless designs and colorways from the past. Now, alongside a slew of Yeezy sneakers, the adidas Yeezy 500 Utility Black will launch as part of the remaining Yeezy inventory.
Taking on a mesh, suede, and leather construction, the silhouette gets covered in an ashy-black, almost purple, monochromatic color. Down on the toebox, a toecap comprised of hairy suede, sitting above wavy leather panels and reaching up to the bottommost eyestay. For eyestays, oval-shaped suede overlays run parallel to the figure-8-shaped tongue and house a set of tonal rope laces. Acting as the base for the various overlays is a sandwich-style mesh, popping out from the profile thanks in part to the organically shaped suede and leather panels.
Running from heel to toe near the midsole is a rubber protective overlay, helping prevent the suede and nubuck above from dirt as well as providing structural integrity. Back on the heel, a combo of mesh, suede, and nubuck stack on top of one another in a shape reminiscent of the adidas Trefoil logo. The black-on-black sockliner and insole keep the look monochromatic with the Ortholite insole featuring adidas, Yeezy, and Ortholite branding in white. Completing the look is the adiPRENE+ midsole and rubber outsole, both sharing a tonal black shade matching the rest of the sneaker.
The adidas Yeezy 500 Utility Black will release June 2. Expect the drop to go down on either adidas Confirmed or adidas.com/yeezy. Releasing in men's sizing, the retail price is set at $210.
