One of the biggest hands in helping New Balance’s recent resurgence would have to be the Teddy Santis-led Aime Leon Dore, a fashion label based in NYC that brings vintage and luxury vibes under one creative roof. On top of his job running NB’s Made in USA Collection, Santis has still found himself collaborating with his employer as we’ve already seen a variety of ALD x NB releases on the way, like multiple 650Rs, Rainers, and a variety of 550 colorways. The latter of these three appears to be getting another colorway as images have emerged of the Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 550 “Navy Suede.”
With a “Navy” colorway already appearing in mixed material fashion, this version of the ALD x NB 550 takes it up a notch by covering the mudguard, quarter panel, eyestays, and heel overlay in hairy suede. Mesh material lands on the collar and toebox in the same monochromatic navy shade as the rest of the sneaker, though the midfoot’s “N” logo breaks up the look with its white leather trim. As for further branding details, the typical “550” text on the bottommost eyestay is gone in favor of a blank canvas while the tongue tags logo gets the typical ALD redesign with an apple graphic replacing the typical basketball logo. Back on the heel, this same logo is featured on the left pair while “NB” is present on the right, though the insole is home to only Aime Leon Dore and the apple basketball logo. Underfoot, a white midsole with “NB” and “New Balance” text is paired with a cream rubber outsole.
The Aime Leon Dore x New Balance 550 Navy Suede is slated to release in 2022 through New Balance, Aime Leon Dore, and select retailers online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price at this time is TBA.
