When it comes to the original Air Jordan 2, only two colorways were released, one in white/black and the other in white/red. This goes for the OG AJ 2 Low as well. As a result, Jordan Brand usually has to come up with new colorways when retroing MJ’s second signature silhouette. Even after an OFF-White collab and more on the way from other labels such as A Ma Maniere, Union, and Maison Château Rouge, sneakerheads still have a love/hate relationship with the Air Jordan 2.
While JB continues to try to change people's negative perception of the AJ 2, for the Holiday 2022 season, the Air Jordan 2 Retro is set to return in its “OG” form for the first time ever. Yes, we have seen the white, varsity red and black AJ 2 retroed in 1994, 2004, 2010, and then in an “Alumni” iteration in 2017 however, none of those pairs have been true to the original specifications 100%. While that is most likely not going to change, the 2022 version is going to be the closest it will get. Don’t forget, the original plates for the Air Jordan 2 from Italy were accidentally destroyed and a retro almost never happened.
The Air Jordan 2 Retro OG holiday 2022 release will feature a full leather upper. No word yet on if it's Made In Italy, stay tuned. It will be all-white, with no colored piping on the sides like the 2004 and 2010 versions. Red and black accents will be in their traditional places with original branding found via the “Wings” logo on the tongue,” “Nike” on the back heel, bottom of the outsole, and insoles. Completing the “OG” vibe is the packaging, with all pairs housed in the classic “Wings” logo box.
The Air Jordan 2 Retro OG was originally set to release in October 2022. After a short delay, they will now release on December 30th, 2022. It will drop at Nike as well as select Jordan Brand retailers worldwide in-store and online. Coming in full-family sizing, men’s pairs will retail for $200.
