All-black sneakers can be a hit-or-miss for brands, especially regarding Jordans. Pairs of various Jordan retros have all been given the triple black treatment with varying degrees of success, sometimes coming later down the line well after the release, as evident with the Jordan 4 Black Cat, which went from sitting at outlets to becoming a near $1,000 sneaker on the secondary market. For Spring 2025, Jordan Brand will be bringing back the theme with the Jordan 3, a colorway on the model that was initially released in June 2007 and is returning for the first time.
Originally, Jordan Brand planned on releasing an all-new Off Noir rendition during the Holiday 2024 season. However, after seeing samples, the brand decided to drop that colorway and retro the Black Cat colorway in OG form.
The upcoming Air Jordan 3 Retro Black Cat stays true to its roots, featuring an all-black color scheme that exudes a sleek, understated style. The upper is crafted from nubuck, complemented by patent leather on the mudguard for a subtle textural contrast. The iconic elephant print, synonymous with the Air Jordan 3, is rendered in a blacked-out version on the suede toecap and heel overlay, enhancing the sneaker's mysterious vibe. This minimalist approach extends to the branding, with black logos blending seamlessly into the tongue and heel tab and Black Cat embroidered on the back heels behind the flap. The design is completed with a black midsole and outsole, reinforcing the shoe's dark, powerful aesthetic.
The Air Jordan 3 Retro Black Cat will release on January 11, 2025, through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. It will be available in men’s sizing at $200, with gradeschool, preschool, and toddler sizes priced at $150, $90, and $75, respectively.
