From time to time, Jordan Brand will switch up the traditional construction of their various sneakers to help keep things fresh as the same old all-leather or suede/leather combos do get tiresome after a while. We’ve seen the label toy with satin, Flyknit, and plenty of other materials but one of the more interesting takes was when JB added the traditional Japanese embroidery method of Sashiko onto the Air Jordan 4 in 2020. During this time period, Jordan Brand was also preparing to bring back the mysterious AJKO 1 silhouette and now we have first looks at an early sample before its return that utilizes “Sashiko” embroidery.
Coming in a “Bred” like colorway, smooth leather takes over the toebox and collar portions in a varsity red hue while the rest of the sneaker utilizes an ashy-looking suede as opposed to the standard canvas construction. This wraps around the mudguard, eyestays, quarter panel, and collar. Piping each of these is black canvas while the larger Swoosh detail on the midfoot comes in solid black leather. “AJKO” branding replaces the usual “Air Jordan” text in the black wings logo. Underfoot sits a white AJ 1 midsole paired with a red rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan AJKO 1 High Sashiko Sample is currently not set for a release, however, we can expect to see more AJKO 1s hit the scene in the near future.
