atmos Tokyo, a heavyweight in the sneaker collaboration scene, has teamed up again with Asics to bring a fresh and exciting design. Known for its unique takes on classic silhouettes, atmos Tokyo continues to push the boundaries of sneaker aesthetics. Recently, the founder Hirofumi Kojima previewed a new project featuring the GT-2160, and now he has unveiled another collaborative effort with Asics: the glow-in-the-dark (GITD) Gel-Kayano 14.
The atmos Tokyo x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 GITD features an eye-catching design that shines—literally. Glow-in-the-dark paint is applied to several key areas, including the splatter design on the foam sole unit, the Asics tiger stripes on the midfoot, the branding on the heel, and the Gel-Kayano 14 text on the lateral heel. The outsole also glows in the dark, ensuring the sneaker stands out day and night. Inspiration for this GITD feature comes from the Yakoutake mushroom, which is native to Japan. Constructed with a mix of mesh, leather, and TPU, the upper of the Gel-Kayano 14 maintains the standard material makeup of the model, ensuring comfort and durability. When not under dark conditions, the shoe features a clean cream and metallic silver color palette applied to the upper. Grey details are present on the sockliner, while the heel overlay takes on a brown finish reminiscent of the soil the Yakoutake mushroom grows in.
The atmos Tokyo x Asics Gel-Kayano 14 GITD will release November 14, 2024, through atmos Tokyo online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at ¥26,400 (approx $170 USD).
