With many NBA players typically opting for well-known sneaker giants, Austin Reaves of the Los Angeles Lakers is charting a distinctive path. Diverging from the mainstream, he’s inked a deal with Chinese sportswear sensation Rigorer. Their previous venture into the sneaker domain with the Rigorer AR1 witnessed an ultra-limited "Ice Cream" colorway release. In light of the FIBA World Cup, a fresh version that Reaves himself has been sporting is about to hit the market with just 1,000 pairs produced.
The "Stars & Stripes" edition of the Rigorer AR1 presents a celebratory blend of red, white, and blue, paying homage to the national flag. Dominantly draped in pristine white, the sneaker flaunts subtle blue touches on the laces and the heel's TPU. Contrasting red details garnish the forefoot's TPU, adding depth to the design. Austin's signature cross-hair logo is on the medial midfoot, nestled above the cocoon-inspired woven upper. This material choice promises dual functionality - allowing airflow while ensuring foot stability. Rigorer’s innovative ShowTime Tech is encapsulated within an EVA foam midsole, aiming to provide instant energy returns and an intimate court feel. Notably, a distinct bubble design on the tongue, encapsulating foam, addresses the issue of lace bite — a personal request from Reaves himself. And for those looking for added value, the Special Box Set doesn't disappoint. Along with the AR1 Stars & Stripes, a pair of socks and specially designed packaging is included.
The Rigorer AR1 Stars & Stripes will release September 9, 2023, exclusively via KicksCrew online. A second drop will follow via Rigorer's online webstore on September 19. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $148.
