Known for outlandish and exorbitantly priced pieces, Balenciaga made waves once again during their latest fashion show that presented the French luxury houses’ Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Dubbed “The Mud Show,” models clad in distressed, oversized, and militaristic clothing (including Kanye West just a day before his Season 9 fashion show) stomped through a literal mud pit with some even spotted in a piece that mimicked the classic red Supreme BOGO. One of the most eyebrow-raising pieces is somewhat drawing comparisons to their viral trash bag that retails for around $1,800, a yellow leather bag that is almost identical to the classic potato chips sold by Lays.
With photos shared by Balenciaga’s Creative Director, Demna, on Instagram, we can expect to see three different “flavors,” such as the classic plain salt, salt and vinegar, and even a “Balenciaga Flavored” spicy variant. The luxury label adds its name to the front of the bag while standard details, like the nutrition facts and barcode, remain on the design. A metallic zipper allows the bag to be opened or closed with the interior coming in a metallic silver finish, just like a $4 bag of chips at the store would have.
The Lay’s x Balenciaga Potato Chip Bag will be released as a part of Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection, releasing in the titular time frame. Don’t expect to pay Lay’s prices as the retail price is reportedly set at a jaw-dropping $1,800.
